The body of the four available models is a combination of aesthetics and practicality. Based on an aerodynamic design its' appeal caters for both the classic and the modern enthusiast.

The substantial chassis carries a fibreglass construction offering essential crash resistance with an outstandingly fine finish and total absence of body flex. Considerable time was expended on the practicality of the body design, and as a result of this the internal dimensions of the body allow for very generous leg room, Sprite body [4k]and comfortable seating. The body also accommodates carrying space substantial enough for the most ardent rallyist and long distance tourers.

The passenger compartment incorporates a moulded seat pan and bulkhead, dashboard and ribbed floor, once again offering practicality and rigidity. A removable seat allows easy washing and cleaning.

The seat in each model of sidecar has been designed based on thousands of miles travelled by Keith, and his wife's desire for comfort. Tried and tested many times over, a comfortable ride is guaranteed to the passenger, whether taking a Sunday afternoon ride,
or touring Europe.

The boot lid is attached by two heavy duty cast aluminium hinges, and is secured by lockable catches. The boot also serves as a luggage rack.

To finish off the Hedingham SS and XL body is the screen, available in two heights, with a hood or tonneau made from substantial double duck cloth, which offers complete protection from the elements.

Colour matching of the body to a customer's motorcycle is offered for the body at extra cost.

The Chassis

The chassis, the rigidity of it's design and mounting is the basis for perfect steering of a sidecar outfit, for without this strength, the machine and sidecar can never be as one.

The unit chassis is an immensely strong 'U' shaped steel loop of 2" diameter, braced at the rear by a flat steel plate of 8mm thickness. Two similar bracing strips bridge the loop and act as mounting points for the sidecar body, whilst a large diameter cross tube acts as a carrier for the torsion bar suspension.

Additional rigidity at this crucial point is afforded by a further tube from the torsion bar carrier to the front chassis brace thereby spreading the suspension load, this also acts as a mounting point for the lower connections to the motorcycle.

Extra tubular supports carry the mudguard, foot plate, badge bar and spotlight guard.

The chassis is available for both British and Continental fitment.

The Suspension

The suspension is totally unique to Unit Sidecars and comprises a steel torsion bar, carried in the cross tube on two sealed ball races, providing a maintenance free construction. Wheel attachment comprises an 8" fabricated swinging arm and two bearing stub axles.

The torsion bar is adjustable for ride height by means of a splined cap on its furthest end.

Attachment

Attachment of the sidecar to the motorcycle is by four straight fixings comprising internally threaded tubes with adjustable yokes manufactured. These stainless steel yokes are fixed to lugs welded (in the majority of cases) to the motorcycle frame or otherwise to the subframe, if fitted. Once again rigidity is of primary importance.

The two 'top' attachments are left and right hand threads for ease of lean in/lean out adjustment.

Throughout the entire construction of the body, chassis, suspension and attachments, quality stainless steel fittings are used.

Additional Services

With the fitting of a sidecar to a motorcycle an alternative to the standard wheels can be provided.

At the rear, the use of a car tyre 15" diameter, and at the front a 16" diameter are recommended. These wheels are available to match the sidecar wheels, either spoked or aluminium fabrication.

Subframes for all beam type frames are available.

Unit Sidecars also offer the supplying and fitting of alternative makes of sidecar, as well as the re-fitting of customers' own sidecars using Unit Sidecars own proven rigid system.

It is Unit Sidecars aim to foster and promote the enjoyment that can be gained from all sidecars, and using their expertise and enthusiasm ensures many happy and satisfied customers world-wide.
